Parker County

Parker County was created in 1855 and organized in 1856. It was named for Isaac Parker, the state legislator who introduced the bill establishing it. Weatherford became the county seat. A later local story is preserved at Chandor Gardens, where portrait artist Douglas Chandor and his wife Ina began their home and surrounding gardens in 1936. That personal creative project adds another layer to the county’s history, connecting a public visitor destination with the lives of the people who originally shaped it.

Chandor Gardens offers a landscaped setting in Weatherford, with visitor arrangements managed through the city. Check its current notices before choosing a date: event preparation can temporarily change ordinary access. The city also explains garden etiquette and the difference between outdoor visits, mansion access and arranged tours. A garden visit can complement time elsewhere in Weatherford, allowing the county seat to be explored through both its public spaces and a more intimate historic setting.
