Discover the County
Schleicher County
Schleicher County was created in 1887 and organized in 1901. Its name honors Gustav Schleicher, a German immigrant who worked as a surveyor and politician. Eldorado became the county seat. The region’s history predates those administrative milestones, including Jumano, Lipan Apache and Comanche peoples. Separating the county’s creation from its later organization helps make the local timeline clearer, while community records and historical collections provide opportunities to learn about the people whose experiences fall between those dates and beyond them.
Eldorado is the practical starting point for a visit to the county and for finding local public information. The county library provides a community resource with an online catalog, while the Schleicher County Historical Museum is listed by Texas Time Travel. Confirm museum access before planning a special trip, and check the library’s own information for services. A focused visit to these institutions can add detail to the county’s story without assuming that rural private properties are visitor destinations.
