McCulloch County

McCulloch County was created from Bexar County in 1856 and organized in 1876. It was named for Benjamin McCulloch, a Texas Ranger and Confederate general. Brady became the county seat. Swedish communities developed in the county during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, while cotton and rail transportation became important parts of local life. The sandstone courthouse dates to 1899. These different threads connect the county’s public buildings with the work and migrations of the people who lived around them.

Richards Park in Brady provides a shaded setting with a playground, picnic facilities and disc golf. The city also maintains information about its RV camping arrangements. Choose the activity that fits your visit and check the relevant city page before setting out. Time in the park can complement an exploration of Brady’s county-seat setting, with the wider county left for a separate drive that gives its smaller communities room in the itinerary.
